Chocolate Cherry Pie

1 1/3 cups vanilla wafer crumbs
1/4 cup margarine, softened
1/2 cup margarine, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 (1 oz. ) square unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs, or equivalent of egg substitute
2 tablespoons maraschino cherries, chopped
whipped cream
whole maraschino cherries

Directions: Crust: combine crumbs and margarine. Press into sides and bottom of 8 inch pie pan. Bake at 375°F for 8 minutes. Cool. Filling: Cream margarine with sugar. Blend in chocolate and vanilla. Add eggs one at a time, beating 5 minutes after each addition. Stir in chopped cherries. Spread filling in crust. Chill 4 hours. Serve with whipping cream. Garnish with maraschino cherry flowers. Make flowers by splitting each cherry 8 times. Spread out to make petals.

Notes: This has been our family traditional Christmas Eve dessert for many years.
