1 lb. beef round steak (1 inch thick)
3 tablespoons shortening
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic salt
2 cups water
3 (medium) pared and sliced thin potatoes
1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms (stems and pieces)
Directions: Heat oven to 350°F. Cut meat into serving size pieces, coat with flour. Melt shortening in skillet. Brown meat. Add onion. Cook and stir until onion is tender. Pour into an ungreased 2 quart casserole dish. Sprinkle with 3 tablespoons of flour, 1 1/2 teaspoon salt and garlic salt. Pour water over the mixture. Cover, and bake 45 to 60 minutes or until meat is tender. Remove from oven and increase oven temperature to 450°F. Arrange potatoes and mushrooms (drained) onto meat. Sprinkle with the parsley flakes. Bake uncovered about 30 more minutes or until potatoes are tender.
Notes: This main course is great on a cold winter day.
