Cinnamon Candy Apples

8 apples (Jonathan or Red Delicious)
8 tablespoons margarine or butter
8 tablespoons maple syrup
8 tablespoons sugar (granulated)
4 teaspoons cinnamon
4 cups water
1 package red hot cinnamon candies
caramel ice cream topping
1 package English walnuts (part chopped, part whole)
whipped topping

Directions: In crockpot, place the apples, which have been cored and left whole. The apples may be layered. To each apple, add 1 tablespoon margarine or butter, 1 tablespoon maple syrup, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Pour the water over the apples. Bake on high 1/2 hour, then low until tender. When tender, add the red hot cinnamon candies and bake until they are dissolved. Stil liquid occasionally. To serve, pour caramel on saucer, add whole apple, drizzle with more caramel, top with whipped topping, and add chopped nuts.

Notes: This recipe is great for the Holidays or anytime. The same ingredients may be used for apple rings, (slice leaving peeling on until done).
