Prune Cake

2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon allspice
1 cup corn oil
1-1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
1-1/2 cups prunes, coarsely cut, cooked and drained
2 cups walnuts or pecans
Topping: 1 cup sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup light corn syrup

1 teaspoon soda

Directions: Sift flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice together and set aside. Cream oil and sugar, add eggs and vanilla beating after each is added. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk, stir in prunes and walnuts. Bake in a 9 inch tube pan, ungreased, at 350°F for 1 hour. To make the topping boil sugar, buttermilk, butter, syrup, soda and vanilla in saucepan for 10 minutes. Pour over the cake immediately from oven.
